These patrons made the DCE live webcast possible

Lun, 05/10/2015 - 22:18

The live webcast of the DCE European Championships 2015 has been made possible by 95 drum corps fans who have donated more than 1,700 dollar. Thanks to these patrons, Drum Corps Europe was able to run the webcast for free again. The webcast had almost 13,000 viewers.

This summer, Drum Corps Europe was forced to reconsider the continuation of the 14-hour webcast during the DCE European Championships in Kerkrade. The webcast of the Championships has become steadily more popular every year but also costs a lot of time and money, even while working with only volunteers. Thanks to the enthusiastic fans listed below, the webcast could remain free this year. A big thank you to all patrons, on behalf of the DCE team and the webcast team!

Kidsgrove Scouts to return to DCA in 2017

Lun, 05/10/2015 - 10:39

The Kidsgrove Scouts will return to the United States in 2017 to participate in the Drum Corps Associates competition. It will be their fourth American tour in seven years time.

In 2010, the Kidsgrove Scouts made its first crossing in order to participate in the all-age competition, and repeated this in 2012 and 2015. This year, the Kidsgrove Scouts took sixth place in the DCA Open Class Finals.

In two years time, the newly crowned European Champions will travel to the United States again. The corps has chosen DCA rather than DCI. In an interview during the live webcast of the DCE Championships, corps director Rob Swindells said that DCA is an obvious choice: "When we come back into Europe we can keep that momentum going all the way to the end. It just works for us."

All members who march the Kidsgrove Scouts in 2016 will secure a spot for 2017.

Enjoy shopping at the Parkstad Limburg Stadium

Ven, 25/09/2015 - 01:04

Drum corps fans won’t be bored for a single moment in the Parkstad Limburg Stadium next Saturday. But for those who still just want to stretch their legs, there is fun to be had outside the stadium too. In front of the stadium we will once again have an impressive market place where you can go shopping.

In front of the entrance of the Parkstad Limburg Stadium, there will once again be various stalls of companies in the music business. This time those include Majestic, MMC, Tims Toms, Rotex, MarchingsShop/Demoulin and Musix, who will be selling their latest products at the DCE Market Place. In addition, several corps will once again have a stall with merchandise for their loyal fans. DCE will sell the famous patches of the DCE Championships (design by Peter Franken), and DVDs.

Like in previous years, you can once again order an exclusive t-shirt from the DCE stand this year with the logo of the DCE Championships 2015 (in collaboration with Rotex). This shirt can only be purchased on the day and is therefore a unique collector's item!

The square in front of the stadium is also traditionally the place to catch up with other fans with a snack and a drink. And to discuss the scores of the Prelims. The fun begins outside. See you in Kerkrade! Don’t have tickets yet? The box office open at 9 am on Saturday.

The programme of the DCE Championships 2015

Mer, 23/09/2015 - 23:40

The programme of the DCE European Championships has been published. After the DCUK Finals, the order of the Premier Class Prelims and the Junior Class Finals have been determined, based on the European ranking.

The DCE European Championships will guarantee a full day of top shows. Sleeping in would mean missing out, because the drum corps action will start from 10:00 am. And the Mosson Secutores from Italy are the perfect sound to wake up to! They are on first because they haven't received a score yet. Next up are the Irish Vikings and the German Blue Diamonds, before the first Dutch participant Jong-Holland makes an appearance. Revolution, 37th Kingswood and Cadence close the show before the break.

At 12:45 pm, it is Wölper Löwen’s turn. They are followed by Spirit of 52, German champion Starriders and Juliana. Dutch champion Jubal will perform shortly before 2:00 pm, with Kidsgrove Scouts and the British champion The Company closing the Prelims.

The Junior Class Finals will start at 15:00 pm, with the Diamond Cadets and Thurrock Marching Brass (both debuting at the DCE Championships), Jong-Holland Juniors, Jong Beatrix, Jong Jubal and Johan Friso. At 16:45 pm, the European champion of the Junior Class will be announced.

The evening programme will start at 6:15 pm with the champion show of the winning junior corps. Then it is the turn of the ten best Premier Class corps for the Finals. Don’t have tickets yet? The box office will open at 9 am on Saturday. Make sure you're there!

DCE continues live webcast of the DCE Championships

Mer, 23/09/2015 - 20:05

DCE will have a live webcast of the DCE European Championships this year. There was some uncertainty about whether the online broadcast could be continued, but thanks to a crowdfunding project, the live webcast has been made possible. Thank you!

This summer, Drum Corps Europe was forced to reconsider the continuation of the 13-hour webcast during the DCE European Championships in Kerkrade. The webcast of the Championships has become steadily more popular every year, but also costs a lot of time and money. Thanks to enthusiastic fans and sponsors supporting it, the webcast will remain free this year.

Because the target amount has not been reached yet, the crowdfunding will also continue during the broadcast itself. “We knew that the live webcast was highly appreciated, but we are happy that people have shown their appreciation in this way”, said webcast coordinator Rob Beeren. “Now we can broadcast the event on the internet for people who for some reason are not able to join us on the day.”

The support of drum corps fans remains welcome. The possibilities range from small gestures of only one dollar per webcast, to larger amounts. Visit the Patreon page for the complete list of sponsorship opportunities and the rewards you can get for your generosity.

DCE re-launches Indoor Music Games, a series of SoundSport sanctioned events

Mer, 23/09/2015 - 00:58

2016 will see the re-launch of the Indoor Music Games across Europe, a series of SoundSport events produced by Drum Corps Europe in cooperation with Drum Corps International and the national sanctioning organization in each country sponsoring an event.

The series will debut in Dublin, Ireland on Saturday 27th February 2016 and finish in Glasgow, Scotland in May. There are also additional shows currently being planned for England between those dates, and one in mainland Europe in April.

This announcement follows a very successful pilot show held in Bristol earlier this year, produced in partnership with Drum Corps International. The re-launch of this exciting new marching music project will make marching music activities accessible to a huge range of performing groups as well as existing drum corps and marching bands. The shows will be hosted in sports halls and arenas, similar to venues used for winter color guard competitions.

In addition there will be the Premier Class and Junior Class for drum & bugle corps including a scoring system. The Junior Class is for groups with members aged 16 and under, while the Premier Class has no age limits.

DCE Chairman Marcel Matthijsse said, "The Indoor Music Games and SoundSport are excellent ways to get new groups involved in marching music activities and provide an achievable performance opportunity to groups which are looking to potentially reform but don't currently have the resources to compete in the summer season. In SoundSport there is no requirement for groups to march a show, as overall entertainment is the key factor. We realised that there are also a number of groups looking to perform a full marching show and want to be scored on a more traditional linear system. Therefore we have decided to reintroduce our ‘Indoor Music Games’ series, which we ran successfully in the early 2000s – this time with the addition of the SoundSport format – creating even more opportunities for participation."

IMBA Chairperson Oisin Molloy said "We are very excited to be launching the Indoor Music Games in Dublin and hope that these shows will make our activity easily accessible to other performing ensembles."

Further details on these shows will be posted in the coming weeks on the DCE website, and groups interested in participating can email Andy Hewlett: andy@drumcorpseurope.org.

Diamond Cadets play on instruments of their own making

Lun, 21/09/2015 - 18:10

For the members of a junior corps, it is often difficult to carry heavy instruments. The Blue Diamonds from Nienhagen solved that problem by developing their own series of instruments: Diamond Musical Instruments.

Two years ago, the board of the corps decided to replace the heavy instruments of their junior corps with lighter ones. In cooperation with Asian partners, they produced instruments including the smallest marching tuba in the world, based on a euphonium.

Other mini-instruments such as mini trumpets and lightweight mellphones have now been added. For Advendo Kids from Sneek in The Netherlands, a small sousaphone of Diamond Musical Instruments was developed, and a mini percussion series is also in the making. During the production of the instruments, the focus lies on ease of use, while the instrument must continue to maintain a good sound.

The smallest marching tuba can be seen on the field on Saturday during the debut of the Diamond Cadets in the Junior Class of the DCE European Championships in Kerkrade.

DrumLine Battle, a rapidly growing series of worldwide competitive and exhibition music ensemble performance opportunities produced by Drum Corps International, and Drum Corps United Kingdom are pleased to announce the first officially sanctioned DrumLine Battle in England in conjunction with the 2015 British Drum Corps Championships.

“We are thrilled to have an official DrumLine Battle affiliated with DCUK” DrumLine Battle Events and Promotions Manager Eric Hjellming said. “This event will not only introduce DrumLine Battle to England, but it will also expose the audience to unique performances in head-to-head match ups like never before.”

Hosted Saturday, September 19th at Select Security Stadium in Widnes, Cheshire, UK, the 2015 British Drum Corps Championships feature 12 of the best Drum Corps based throughout the country. The battle will occur after the completion of Finals competition, immediately before final retreat and scores.

Alan Thompson, on behalf of DCUK, added “Having seen the DrumLine Battles in Indianapolis at this year’s Drum Corps International World Championships and the excitement they generated I could see how we might be able to incorporate this into our Championships day and I see this as being a first of many Battles we hold here in the UK.”
