New European Drum Corps organisation EDCA

Dom, 03/12/2017 - 19:00

As a result the agenda for Rob and Bert for the short term will be the following:

1.     Establish a new Association (European Drum Corps Association) and register at the chambers of commerce;
2.     Work out the details of the rules and regulations of the EDCA;
3.     Invite all participating drum corps to become a member of EDCA;
4.     Secure the partners of DCE to remain partner of EDCA;
5.     Secure the judges panel remain as part of the EDCA;
6.     Secure the volunteers of DCE remain as part of the EDCA;
7.     Start to investigate the possibility to have European Championships in Kerkrade again on September 29th 2018;

Ad.1
There has been chosen to establish an Association instead of a Foundation.
Reason is the strong felt need from the participating drum corps to have a direct say in the way the organization has to go (grow) and the way they want to be judged.
Participating drum corps will become a member of the EDCA, which will have an annual meeting to determine the direction of the EDCA, evaluate last year and elect the board of directors.
This will generate more involvement of the drum corps with the EDCA.

As soon as step 1 and 2 are done, more detailed information will become available. If you have any question or remark, please feel free to contact:

DCE terminates all current activities

Gio, 19/10/2017 - 05:30

This year was the last year of a multiannual contract with the Parkstad Limburg Stadium. The contract needs to be renewed, and it is also a year in which we needed to make decisions on several new investments. The question for the DCE board to ask is how we can keep the foundation healthy (in regard to the organisation and the finances) in the short and long term. Also, in the light of the decreasing number of corps.

We have great volunteers and judges who are prepared to spend a lot of their free time to support the events and continue to develop and educate themselves. The staff, judging team and board of DCE consists of volunteers only. In the last couple of years we have seen people leave, and we couldn’t find suitable candidates for a management functions, despite various attempts. For the three remaining board members, the time has come to take a step back. Changes in our personal lives mean we can’t spend as much time as we would like to on the activity, and as much time as is needed. We noticed that sometimes we were delivering half a job, and even worse, we weren’t developing the future of the activity.

Of course we have considered continuing the current path for another year or two, but finally agreed that stopping at a height is better than having to stop because there is nothing left. We see that there is still enough potential to build a future with new initiatives.

Our decision does not mean that the legal entity of Drum Corps Europe will be terminated. The foundation will start and manage the DCE Heritage Fund. The foundation is currently healthy and with the available funds, the foundation wants to support new initiatives that are focused on keeping and growing the drum corps activity in Europe. Most importantly, the initiative needs to have the goal to keep the European Music Games alive. There must also be a solid business plan that shows that activities can be guaranteed over several years at a high standard with independent judging by qualified judges. Applications can be honored for as long as a budget is available. For more information, please contact us at info@drumcorpseurope.org.

We would like to thank all present and past volunteers, judges, partner organisations, sponsors, corps, fans and everyone involved for their fantastic support during the last 17 years. It has been an amazing journey. We wish you all the best for the future and hope to see the first proposals for a new music games competition in Europe soon.

The Company and Jong Jubal are EMG European Champions 2017

Dom, 01/10/2017 - 20:23

 It was a worrying start to the day at Parkstad Limburg on Saturday when torrential rain poured down on the stadium. The start of prelims was delayed in an effort to wait for the rain to pass. Inbhear Mor Performance Ensemble came on fifteen minutes later than planned. The worries soon turned in to applause and laughter as Inbhear Mors smiles and an impromptu pre-show fun and guitar playing lightened the mood. Inbhear Mor were later named by many in the stadium as a highlight of the day with their thoroughly entertaining programme “Pulse”.

Performances followed from fifteen corps in total during prelims. As the scores came through, it was clear that we were going to have tight competition to make finals. The top three were grouped together with high scores between 87.55 to 89.00. The tenth qualifying place was also tight on scores, with Cadence going through with 70.80 for their show “The theory of everything”.

Five corps took part in Junior Class Finals. There were a couple of groupings in the scoring, with 5th and 4th separated by just over two points, while Johan Friso edged ahead of Jong Beatrix as runners up with their production “United”.  A trombone solo from Jong Jubal hushed the stadium as everyone watched the opening of “Sensei” from the corps who succeeded in winning Junior Class finals with a score of 80.75.

The weather cleared for finals and a packed stadium and thousands of webcast viewers at home were treated to a feast of drum corps. The Company were coming fresh from their victory in DCUK and an excellent prelims performance, while Kidsgrove Scouts had performed immensely well earlier in the day and were only a fraction of a point behind.  Jubal were a certainty to improve on their prelims score. It was impossible to predict.

Scoring in the middle of the ten was tight, as 0.35 separated Spirit of 52 and Starriders. The Italian corps Unity edged just ahead of the group to 5th place with one of the stand-out performances of the night.

Jubal did improve by almost two points, and finished in third place. Kidsgrove Scouts both passed the 90 point mark and gave some of the most passionate, emotional and technically excellent performances seen at the stadium.

All scores are available to view on our scores page.

Live webcast of the DCE European Championships

Gio, 28/09/2017 - 06:47

Nothing is better than being at the fantastic Parkstad Limburg Stadium and enjoying the music, show and atmosphere. However, the webcast offers an alternative for everyone who is unable to travel to Kerkrade. The show is hosted by Robby Overvliet and Michelle Vaughan. Analysts Joe Fitzpatrick and Paul Doop will give their views on the shows. The webcast will start Saturday at 9:30 (local time GMT+1) and can be accessed through a banner on the DCE website.

Drum corps fans who enjoy watching the event from their own home will be asked to become a patron of the 2017 webcast. “We know that the live webcast is highly appreciated, and with so many drum corps fans becoming a patron of the webcast we could keep it free last year", Rob Beeren from Drum Corps Europe said. "We hope that viewers will become a patron this year as well, so we can keep the webcast available to as many people as possible."
